2010 OC THROWDOWN

5 more days till the throwdown! This is going to be an exciting week of preparation!

  • 10,000 sq ft warehouse in Irvine

  • 125 Competitors, 300+ Spectators

  • Film Production Crew Covering the Event.

  • Tons of sponsors, including Rogue Fitness, lululemon athletica and Oakley.

These workouts will be programmed by the legend James “OPT” FitzGerald. James won the CrossFit Games in 2007 and is widely considered to be one of the premier strength and conditioning coaches on earth.

There will be 4 workouts to be completed in two days. I believe, at my level of fitness, that this should not be a problem at all. I just want to successfully complete the workouts as RXD in the limited amount of time given. (Let's just hope there are no muscle ups, handstand pushups and leg pistols!)

The spectators are going to make this event. Motivation is huge in the CrossFit community and I believe that this weekend, magic will happen. My test of will will be pushed beyond capacity, and it's all going to be fueled by motivation from the spectators. I am ready to give it my all!

I will be recording this week on my training and preparation and experience at the event.
It's been almost two years since I started CrossFit and boy how much have I improved, however, now it is time to see where my level of fitness stands with 59 other men. Some of them I can consider amongst the fittest on earth.

Key to success:

You have to be pretty good at everything. CrossFit tests your ability on 10 elements of fitness wich are:

  1. Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance
  2. Stamina
  3. Strength
  4. Flexibility
  5. Power
  6. Speed
  7. Coordination
  8. Agility
  9. Balance
  10. Accuracy
I'm telling you right now, Lance Armstrong (or any endurance athlete) will not win this event, or succeed at any Crossfit Workout. Sure he can ride a bike for miles, but if you ask him to lift 135lbs overhead, or do 100 Pull Ups, Push Ups, Kettle Bell Swings, Wall Balls, and Deadlifts, he won't be able to perform as well as everyone else.

With that being said, any power lifter or body builder that can lift ridiculous amounts of heavy weight will probably not even finish a workout. An athlete under fitness must be able to perform in every aspect fitness throws at you.

Know the unknowable, train for everything. It helps you as an athlete and in the real life.

"Achievers are commited to their goals and driven my determination."
