Canyon Gaining Momentum

There is so much momentum going on at Canyon right now that sometimes I have to pinch myself to believe that this is actually happening! I am getting women that have never been athletes their entire lives to do handstand holds! The move to program with levels was huge. This has encouraged hard work ethic to progress. Goals are being set and people are making gains.

Last Saturday we hosted a Friends and Family day. Despite the weather, we had a great turnout! There was a moment during that morning that gave me goosebumps. I didn't ask anyone to help me, it was a natural instinct for our veteran clients to help. They were encouraging and helping keeping an eye out for improper form and range of motion. At that particular moment, I knew from now on things were going to change. Later that day I went to the drawing board.

Two things on my mind:

How do I continue the momentum we first had with the Performance Nutrition Experience? New clients are interested, I can probably say almost 30 more people want to do it. But deep inside me I know that it will not be the same unless I engage them with our current PNE participants.

Most of the PNE contestants have been a part of the Canyon Family for a while. I believe it is time to offer my knowledge. It is time to run classes with "assistants." I am thinking of hosting classes or seminars for our current clients that are interested in helping out. Crossfit methodology is important, coaching tips will be helpful for them. If I can give in return a good preparation for  a certification, I would like to see some people help me with sessions. I believe for anyone who truly values what Crossfit is all about should get certified. The more knowledge the better for the community. Crossfit is not even 10 years old yet and it is kicking ass! When I first started Crossfit, I had this feeling in my gut that this is going to change. This is something big. I felt that Crossfit was groundbreaking and well on its way to change the world of fitness forever. At the same time I doubted myself because NOBODY knew what Crossfit was. Every time I mentioned it to someone there was little or no interest at all. It was something I kept to myself, believing in the opportunities.

In order for Canyon to grow it needs the help of the community. Soon I see us hiring our very own clients as trainers (its impacts peoples lives that much). The more nutritional encouragement and awareness of proper movement at Canyon, the more it will be recognized, the fitter the people will get, more lives will be changed.

I think because of the use of social media, Crossfit is going to be one of the very first "movements" on how businesses change to building relationships with their customers. But this isn't something new. This is old school business. This is how business used to run. Back when small towns worked on building relationships. Word of mouth was powerful. It was an era when businesses could stay in family hands for several generations. Business owners took pride in what they did. With today's technology, we don't take word for a published magazine for the best Chinese restaurant in the county (probably paid into getting published and rated), we look at what our friends are posting online, the honest reviews that are being posted; and those businesses understand that, the ones that will survive vs the ones that will not.

I am not saying this is death to Globo Gym, I am saying that they better do something because small boxes are killing it. And they will do something about it, perhaps you will see more "functional" equipment vs machines. Maybe they will even copy a training regimen. But they will never suceed because they need to build a community from the ground. They need to know who everyone is and what they do for a living. More importantly, they have to care about their clients more so than their ROI. And if the CEO of Gold's Gym doesn't care about that, all what he or she cares about is maintaining profits, then they will be doomed.
